This Baked Feta Dip is a warm, savory, and slightly sweet appetizer featuring creamy baked feta cheese topped with toasted pecans and fig preserves. Perfect for entertaining, it combines the saltiness of feta with the sweetness of figs and the crunch of nuts, making it a delicious and elegant dip to serve with toasted baguette, pita bread, or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale

Feta Cheese

  • 14 to 16 ounces block feta cheese

Oil and Seasonings

  • 3 Tbsp avocado oil
  • ½ tsp dried oregano (or dried parsley)
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • ½ tsp fresh thyme (optional)

Topping

  • ½ cup fig preserves
  • ½ cup raw pecans, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the feta.
  2. Toast Pecans: Heat the chopped pecans in a small skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they become toasted and crunchy, about 1 to 3 minutes. Immediately transfer them to a bowl and mix with the fig preserves to combine.
  3. Prepare Feta: Remove the feta blocks from their packaging and place them in a small oven-safe dish, such as a small casserole dish. Drizzle the feta with avocado oil, then sprinkle with dried oregano and a pinch of black pepper.
  4. Bake Feta: Bake the feta at 400°F for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese turns golden brown. Remove from the oven, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F.
  5. Mix and Top Feta: Transfer the baked feta to your serving dish and stir it gently with a spoon until creamy. Pour the fig and pecan mixture on top of the feta. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 12 to 17 minutes at 350°F, until the topping is hot and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and place it on a trivet or heat-safe surface. Sprinkle fresh thyme over the hot dip if using. Serve immediately with toasted baguette, pita bread, or crackers.

Notes

  • You can substitute dried parsley for oregano if preferred.
  • For a nuttier flavor, try using toasted walnuts instead of pecans.
  • Fresh thyme adds a lovely aromatic note but is optional.
  • Serve warm for the best creamy texture and flavor.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
