Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 and ½ cups (135g) Rice Chex® cereal
  • ⅔ cup (134g) sprinkles
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, cut into 8 slices
  • 8 ounces (227g) high quality white chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Pour the Rice Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside, ensuring there is enough space for coating later.
  2. Melt the Coating: In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the butter, white chocolate, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Stir constantly until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. Once melted, remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted white chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently stir with a spatula or spoon to coat all the cereal pieces evenly without breaking them.
  4. Add Sprinkles: Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag or a container with a tight fitting lid. Add the sprinkles and shake gently but thoroughly until the sprinkles are well distributed throughout the cereal.
  5. Coat with Powdered Sugar: Add the powdered sugar to the bag or container, seal it tightly, and shake again until every piece of cereal is generously coated with powdered sugar, creating a sweet, cake batter-like finish.
  6. Cool and Store: Spread the Puppy Chow evenly onto a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper to cool and set. Once cooled, discard any excess powdered sugar collected at the bottom. Store the Puppy Chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week for best freshness and crunch.

Notes

  • Use high quality white chocolate for the best flavor and smooth coating.
  • Make sure to melt the chocolate and butter on low heat to avoid scorching.
  • Shake the cereal gently when adding sprinkles and powdered sugar to avoid crushing the pieces.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness and freshness.
  • This snack is perfect for parties, holidays, or as a sweet gift in decorative packaging.
