Ingredients

Scale

Batter Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (113g), melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk (240ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping and Add-ins

  • 3 ripe bananas, sliced
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish and tilt it to evenly coat the bottom.
  2. Mix the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract while whisking until the batter is smooth and combined.
  3. Pour batter over butter: Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir; the butter will meld with the batter as it bakes to create a tender crust with crisp edges.
  4. Add bananas: Spread the sliced bananas evenly over the top of the batter. They will sink slightly during baking, creating flavorful pockets throughout the cobbler.
  5. Sprinkle topping: Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle generously over the bananas and batter. If desired, scatter the chopped nuts and chocolate chips evenly on top.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown and bubbling at the edges. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick near the center; it should come out with moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the cobbler to rest for 10–15 minutes to set before serving. Serve warm for the best comforting experience.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and flavor.
  • If you prefer, substitute milk with almond milk or any other milk alternative.
  • Walnuts and chocolate chips are optional but add great texture and taste.
  • The cobbler is best served warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
