Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs like oregano or thyme (optional)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and dried herbs until well combined.
  3. Add Cheese: Fold the shredded cheese into the dry mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated to prevent clumping.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil or melted butter, and egg until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Mix Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and gently mix until just combined, taking care not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  6. Prepare Pan: Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan using cooking spray or butter, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  7. Pour Batter: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Optionally, sprinkle extra cheese on the surface for a cheesy crust.
  8. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cover with foil if it browns too quickly.
  9. Cool in Pan: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes to set.
  10. Cool Completely: Remove the bread from the pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
  11. Slice and Serve: Slice with a serrated knife and enjoy warm or at room temperature with butter, garlic spread, or marinara sauce.
  12. Store: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use your favorite cheese or a combination for varied flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread soft and tender.
  • Add extra herbs or garlic powder to enhance savory notes.
  • Brush the top with melted butter before baking for extra richness.
  • To freeze, wrap the cooled bread tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil.
  • Optional: Sprinkle additional cheese on top before baking for a golden cheesy crust.
