Ingredients

Scale

Crust Ingredients

  • 1 box golden butter recipe yellow cake mix
  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 2 eggs

Filling Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (1 pound)
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Brew the Brown Butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the salted butter and cook it carefully until it turns a beautiful brown color and emits a nutty aroma. This should take a few minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
  3. Make the Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter with the yellow cake mix. Add the 2 eggs and stir until well incorporated into a dough. Using a spatula, press this dough evenly into the greased 9×9 pan to form the crust layer.
  4. Prepare the Filling: In another large mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, light brown sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 egg until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Pour the cream cheese filling over the crust in the pan, spreading evenly while leaving a small rim around the edges so the crust can rise properly while baking. Optionally, garnish the top with additional powdered sugar. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes. The top will develop a slight crust but should not be jelly-like.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing to achieve the best gooey texture. Serve and enjoy this rich, buttery treat.

Notes

  • Watch the butter closely when browning to prevent it from burning.
  • Allow the brown butter to cool to avoid scrambling the eggs when mixing the crust.
  • For a cleaner cut, chill the cake slightly before slicing.
  • This cake is very rich; small portions are recommended.
  • You can dust additional powdered sugar over the top before serving for a pretty finish.
